Embossing and debossing are the processes of creating either raised or recessed images and designs in paper and other materials. The difference being, an embossed pattern is raised against the background, while a debossed pattern is sunken into the surface of the material.
Both print styles are achieved by pressing the paper onto a metal die of the design, creating a tactile, 3D finish.
Embossed or debossed images can be ‘blind’, where there is no printing or foil stamping, the image is purely raised or recessed on plain paper stock. Or alternatively all elements can be combined incorporating embossing, debossing, colour and foil printing to create a striking 3D print result.
